Riley

Riley just turned two-years old on January 14, 2008.  I can’t believe how the time has flown by.  It seems like just yesterday we were on our way to Warren, Ohio to adopt Riley.  Riley is doing well.  He has really grown into a handsome boy.  Riley has recently been taking out the garbage with us.  I have no idea how this started, but on Sunday nights either my husband or I will say to Riley, “Time to take the garbage out.”  He runs to door and walks down to the curb with us.  I occasionally allow him to carry a piece of cardboard or plastic water bottle.  He then will place the cardboard or plastic bottle in the recycling bin.  We have also noticed he loves to put napkins in the trash.  We will give him a napkin and he will walk over to the trash and put it in there.  We never trained him to do this, he just does it all on his own.   We love Riley so much.  It is like he has always been a part of our family.  Thank you again for the opportunity to adopt Riley.  Whenever anyone asks about Riley, I always tell them about Golden Treasures Golden Retriever Rescue and how they should adopt a dog from this fantastic organization.

Best regards,

Krystn & Adam Smerecki

Henry (formerly Victor)

Dear Golden Treasures,

We adopted Henry (formerly Victor) from your organization last August. He is a special needs golden, due to his occasional seizures, but he adjusted very quickly to our home.  He has even become friends with Putty - one of our two cats.  We call them the “Two Amigos” as they both share an amazing love of both food and sleep.  It is not that uncommon to see Henry and Putty napping together or to turn around while fixing lunch and see the side-by-side grins of Henry and Putty looking up at you hopefully for a quick snack.

Coming home from work is a highlight for both of us to see an overly excited dog waiting to greet us and there are at least two instances a day where Henry will do something where we get a genuine laugh.

It is amazing that a dog with this much love, intelligence and personality would be given up for adoption, and we often think aloud to one-another to who could actually give up this dog?  Whenever we take him out on his many daily walks, we are frequently stopped by people passing by who want to know where we got such a gorgeous and well-mannered dog.  And their jaws drop when we tell them he was a rescue.  Whatever the reason was for Henry to come to Golden Treasures, we are glad to have found him and made him a permanent part of our family!!

ELLIE

Dear Golden Treasures,

We doggie sat for Ellie earlier in 2007, we felt so compelled to make sure nothing bad happened to her. So, we decided to foster the dog nobody wanted, when she lost her former foster home in June 2007 and was still looking for that forever home. Little did we know, at that time, we would become that forever home for her.

Yes, Ellie has some issues but her "sweet and loving personality" are far more intense than any issue imaginable. No one will ever know for certain what this lovely creature has been through but whatever it was it certainly didn't change her mind about loving "her" humans. Never in our lives have we seen a more loving, fun, and intelligent dog!

From the first day she walked into our lives, Ellie has been a constant source of love, joy, fun, and energy. This beautiful girl will not only play with the adults here but also enjoys playing with our 3-year-old granddaughter. Ellie will cuddle with you when you are sad because she knows you need her or just cuddle for the joy of it. The smile on her face when she is close to you tells everyone just how happy she is.

Her kisses are just so gentle and sweet. If she really likes you, she will give you a little nose nibble with your kiss. Ellie's hugs are just great, with her paws on your shoulder and snuggling in. Imagine coming home from a hard day at work to Ellie and getting those hugs and kisses. They really improve your day!

Ellie loves to run, jump and play which keeps us all going and some of her antics while playing are absolutely hysterical (a little hard to explain). Let's just say, TV has nothing on this sweetie when it comes to entertainment.

As I sit here writing this Ellie is trying to help. My shadow is never far from me and it is fantastic to know she is there. Always close by to lend encouragement, a quick kiss to let you know she loves you, and her ever-watchful eye surveying her domain. Let's not forget her ever-smiling face for everyone she meets.

While Ellie hasn't completely gotten past her separation anxiety she is real close. She still drools a little when left alone but what's a little drool among family, right? Progress is good and Ellie will soon be over it completely as she wants so much to please. Which is exactly what she does every day!

We can't thank you enough, Golden Treasures, for bringing this wonderful puppy into our lives! We are looking forward to many joyful years with dear, sweet Ellie.

Thank you,
George, Carla, Kelly, Carl, and Carlie Dawson P.S. Ellie says, "Thank you Golden Treasures for not giving up on me and finding me a 4ever home! You all are so wonderful! WOOF!"
